Jozi FM South Africa interview on UNESCO’s Empowering Local Radio

UNESCO interviews JoziFM, South Africa, about the positive impact UNESCO disaster reporting training has had on their radio station and their listeners. The UNESCO project “Empowering Local Radio with ICTs” has helped build the capacity of 59 local radios in 10 African countries, since 2012. Funded by Sweden, its overall goal was to improve the lives of the poor, especially women and girls, by raising local radio stations’ quality programming and capacity to provide public service broadcasting.
The interviewer is Alison Meston from UNESCO and she is joined by:Ms Nomcebo Mahasha, Ms Tumelo (Dumi) Mokete and Mr Oscar Masiya and JoziFM station listener, Ms Khosi Nyakame

Music Unite – Interview with John Higgins

Travis Rumohr talks to John Higgins about the Music Unite project,
Music Unite is a project developed by both the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building and Beyond Skin which engages with Loyalist Flute Bands. The project aims to provide an opportunity, through music, for loyalist band members and musicians from different cultures to develop relationships, enabling a shared peaceful expression and celebration of identity whilst challenging the stereotypes that are often associated with Loyalist bands.

A prelude to World Radio Day
UNESCO’s Alison Meston joins RRN’s Larry McCauley for an interview for World Radio Day 2016. The radio DJ’s life story of fleeing Nigeria to Libya after conflicts between ethnic groups, then having to flee his new Libyan home again during the 2011 conflict. Larry took the perilous journey across the sea to arrive in Italy, where he eventually made a new home in Hamburg and founded the Refugee Radio Network, to give other refugees a voice.
